Lincoln Financial Field History

Constructed between 2001 and 2003, Lincoln Financial Field initially cost $512 million to build. It’s home to a wide variety of sporting events, including Eagles home games, Temple Owls college football games, Philadelphia Union Major League Soccer games and the NCAA lacrosse national championships. Lincoln Financial Field is also a hub for entertainment in South Philly, hosting stadium performances from artists such as Bruce Springsteen, U2, Taylor Swift and Metallica. Widely considered a cultural landmark, the stadium has also been featured in the popular television show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

In 2013, Lincoln Financial Field underwent a $125-million renovation, which included construction of two new upper level bridges, expanded seating, upgraded amenities, the installation of stadium-wide WiFi and two new HD video boards.

Parking and Admission at Lincoln Financial Field 

As part of a larger sports complex, Lincoln Financial Field has access to a vast network of lettered parking lots (A-X), with access varying based on scheduled events at other facilities. Guests should check the Lincoln Financial Fields website before attending events to get details on parking rules and restrictions for specific event dates. Lots A-P are closest in proximity to the stadium and are the only lots approved for tailgating. Pricing for general parking at those lots vary by event, but can cost around $40 for cars and $80 for oversized vehicles. Parking at FDR Park is $30. Lots typically open four-and-a-half hours before kick off.

Lincoln Financial Field can be accessed from I-95 South via exits 17 and 19, from 1-95 North via exits 17, 19 and 13, and from I-76 via Sports Complex exits 349 and 350.

Lincoln Financial Field can also be reached by public transportation using the SEPTA Broad Street Subway Line, with guests exiting at the last southbound stop at Pattison Avenue, and via bus Route 4 southbound to Broad Street.

Guests planning to attend an event at Lincoln Financial Field should be aware of the stadium’s bag policy, which requires guests to limit personal items brought into the stadium to bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12″ x 12″ x 6″ in size and small clutch bags not larger than 4.5″ x 6.5″. The stadium has a maximum game day capacity of 67,594 guests, including 172 luxury suites comprising 3,040 total luxury suite seats. The luxury suites and club level seats grant guests access to exclusive lounges, including the Hyundai Club, located in the west lounge, and TORK Club, located in the east lounge.
