Roxian Theatre History

Roxian Theatre opened in 1929 as a 1,500-seat vaudeville theater known as The Roxian. Within just a few years, the venue began showing films — with its identity as a classic movie house lasting for nearly 80 years. In 1980, the venue reopened as The Emerald Room, a banquet facility that hosted weddings, professional wrestling events and more through the turn of the century until it closed its doors in 2003.

From 2007 to 2011, the Roxian underwent renovations on its original structure, an effort that was built upon in the fall of 2017 when Roxian Live, LLC purchased the property and began executing a $9 million construction plan. The current Roxian Theatre was officially unveiled in May 2019 and reopened with a series of free house shows open to the public that included performances by U.K. soul quintet The New Mastersounds, reggae act Iration & Pepper and jazz/funk collective Snarky Puppy.
